After years in development, The Art League will celebrate the opening of two new locations for art classes in Old Town North with a block party.
The free, family-friendly event will be held at the new Slaters Lane Annex (800 Slaters Lane) at 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 6, featuring art demonstrations, food, and ice cream bowls created by local artists, among other activities.
The Art League, which is based at the Torpedo Factory Art Center (105 North Union Street), was forced to relocate due to the redevelopment of its space at the Montgomery Center. Two locations for classes were identified in 2023 — at Slaters and their new Studios at Muse (1201 N. Royal Street).
As previously reported, the building at 800 Slaters Lane was built in 1951. It was a laboratory and a warehouse before becoming a Nordic Press print shop in 1996, which closed in 2021.
