The last weekend of May brings a variety of activities, from spring markets to the city’s D-Day tribute.
Shoppers can check out the Carlyle Crossing Spring Hue Market Friday and Volunteer Alexandria and Made in ALX Arts & Crafts Fairs Sunday. Foodies will get a chance Saturday to try Little Birdie before it opens in Del Ray later in June.
Music lovers can catch Alexandria Singers’ spring show, while true crime fans won’t want to miss The Dinner Detective True Crime Murder Mystery Dinner Show.
Alexandria’s D-Day Commemoration will be at Carlyle Square rather than Market Square this year. Along with paying tribute to those who served during D-Day in World War II, the event includes live demonstrations, community booths and dancing. Carlyle Crossing Spring Hue Market
When: 4:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, May 29
The mixed-use Carlyle Crossing development will host the open air marker with local artists and markers featuring handmade goods, vintage apparel, jewelry, textiles, housewares, original artwork and more. Attendees can also enjoy hands-on activities like aura photography, blind contour drawing, keychain-making, a family-friendly dog experience and a make-your-own bouquet station. The event will feature a husband-and-wife DJ duo playing Latin sounds.

Alexandria Singers’ “Dream Loud” Spring Show
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 29 and 4 p.m. Saturday, May 30
The audience will be treated to diverse choral arrangements, from Metallica to the music of “Encanto” at Alexandria Singers’ spring show at Bishop Ireton High School. Tickets are “pay what you wish.”

Clara Barton & The Missing Soldiers Office at Lee-Fendall House
When: 2-3 p.m. Saturday, May 30
Madeleine Thompson, who is the site administrator of the Clara Barton Missing Soldiers Office Museum, will lead a discussion on the Missing Soldiers Office that Clara Barton ran from 1865 to 1868. The discussion will examine Barton’s life, her role during the Civil War, her efforts to identify missing soldiers, and the impact of her work on humanitarian efforts. Thompson will also discuss the preservation process of the site that is now a museum. Tickets are $17.85.

Her Voice: an evening of Ukraine’s art and sound
When: 7-10 p.m. Saturday, May 30
This semiformal event at the Torpedo Factory Art Center will celebrate the release of the 2026 Marigold Magazine issue, which features stories about the resilience of women in Ukraine. Proceeds benefit the SMUHA Family Resilience Project by United Help Ukraine, which provides therapeutic activities, emotional resilience support and safe spaces for children and families impacted by the war. The $85 tickets include hors d’oeuvres and a copy of the magazine. Drinks are available for purchase.

The Dinner Detective True Crime Murder Mystery Dinner Show
When: 6-9 p.m. Saturday, May 30
Enjoy North America’s largest award-winning interactive murder mystery dinner show at Sheraton Suites Old Town Alexandria. This murder mystery dinner experience features professional actors secretly planted among the guests, leading to twists and a chance to crack the case and find the culprit. Tickets include the show, a complete dinner and gratuity. Future shows will be June 20 and July 25.

Little Birdie Preview at Del Ray Farmers’ Market
When: 8 a.m.-12 p.m. Saturday, May 30
Little Birdie, the sister restaurant of Matt & Tony’s All Day Kitchen + Bar, will offer a preview before its June opening. It will serve a limited menu from a stand at the Del Ray Farmers’ Market. The owners told ALXnow the restaurant opens Tuesday, June 23 at 1504B Mount Vernon Avenue.

16th Annual D-Day Commemoration
When: 1-4 p.m. Sunday, May 31
The 16th Annual D-Day Commemoration organized by the Alexandria-Caen Sister City Committee moves to a new location at Carlyle Square due to City Hall and Market Square construction. There will be remarks by officials, performances by the Alexandria Citizens Swing Band, United States Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps and the United States Coast Guard Silent Drill Team, swing dancing demonstrations by Gottaswing dancers, World War II reenactors, military displays and dozens of exhibitors and community booths.

Volunteer Alexandria and Made in ALX Arts & Crafts Fairs
When: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, May 31
Volunteer Alexandria and Made in ALX present this craft fair with jewelry, pottery, soaps, home décor and other items from local artists. There will be another event June 6 on Brenman Park Drive in Cameron Station and June 28 at Tavern Square.

Silent Reading Party at Hotel AKA Alexandria
