Nearly 1,000 Alexandria children have received emergency resources since the opening of ALX Closet in 2024.

The resource center at the Del Pepper Community Resource Center (4850 Mark Center Drive) is a collaboration between nonprofits The Center for Alexandria’s Children and The Fund for Alexandria’s Child, providing kids with donations of clothes, diapers, formula, and more to families experiencing a crisis.

“This milestone reflects the heart of our community,” said Terri Cheshire, executive director of the Center for Alexandria’s Children. “Every pack of diapers, every warm coat, every new school outfit represents hope and relief for a child and family facing a difficult moment, and that is worth celebrating.”

Families access ALX Closet through their case managers, social workers, and service providers from the Department of Community and Human Services, the Alexandria Health Department, and Neighborhood Health.

“ALX Closet depends on the generosity and dedication of donors, volunteers, and partners,” said Christine Levine, a coordinator of Community Resources at The Fund for Alexandria’s Child. “Because of them, when a child needs something essential, it is there without delay or uncertainty. That kind of support truly changes lives.”
