Dozens attend second Alexandria City Council Town Hall of the year

Alexandria City Council held its second City Council Town Hall of the year on Thursday (June 12).

Approximately fifty people were present at the Charles Houston Rec Center Gymnasium as City Council members answered questions submitted by both the in-person and virtual audience.

Questions about breaking the City Council into wards, removing train tracks in Old Town, changes to Winkler Botanical Preserve, and ARHA changes at the Alate spurred council explanation and discussion.

These town halls have promised the opportunity for the public to hear directly from local elected officials, learn about upcoming projects and initiatives, and ask questions that are important to you and your family.

During her monthly one-on-one conversation with ALXnow on Monday (June 9), Mayor Alyia Gaskins encouraged residents to attend the Town Hall, sharing that this will be the second of four planned town halls for the year, with additional sessions expected in September and November.

“The town halls are an effort by the council to make sure that we are getting out into the community and taking your questions, your concerns, and your ideas,” Gaskins said.

City Council members gathered for their first town hall of 2025 on March 29, addressing resident concerns ranging from school funding to infrastructure projects and the city’s economic challenges.
