PHOTOS: Going down a dual language rabbit hole in the Alexandria Children’s Theatre production of Alice In Wonderland

Spoiler warning: Alice doesn’t make it back from her trip down the rabbit hole in the Alexandria Children’s Theatre’s (ACT) dual language production at Mount Vernon Community School (2601 Mount Vernon Avenue).

“Que curioso,” Alice says, bewildered. “Everything seems so much different since I fell into that rabbit hole.”

The play was performed in Spanish and English, a first for the school’s dual language program. The students practiced the play for an hour and a half each week over the last five months.

“For the last 10 years, I’ve dreamt about doing a bilingual production so that all kids can try acting,” Cullen told us after the show. “Theater changes lives. It enriches everyone’s life a little bit more, and my hope was, especially at this time right now that we’re all living through, to bring joy to students every way I can.”

Cullen said that next year, she will return to the school for a multilingual production of The Wizard of Oz.
