🌨️ Today’s weather: Snow may appear briefly before noon, followed by sleet between noon and 1pm, and then both snow and sleet after 1pm; expect cloudy skies and a high near 37. On Wednesday night, sleet is likely before 1am, turning into freezing rain and sleet between 1am and 4am, and either rain or freezing rain after 4am; temperatures will dip to around 32. Anticipate a 30% chance of precipitation during the day and a 100% chance at night, along with potential ice and sleet accumulations of less than 0.1 inches and half an inch, respectively. Light winds during the day will turn southeast at 3-5 mph at night.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the aforementioned possible snow and sleet tonight and tomorrow morning.
The City of Alexandria warned that the ice could impact travel tonight and tomorrow morning.
According to a release from the City of Alexandria:
Slight chance of sleet is possible on Wednesday between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., transitioning to a chance of snow and sleet after 1 p.m.. Expect sleet, rain and freezing rain through the night. Ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Rain will continue through 1 p.m. on Thursday, February 6, with a small chance for more rain Thursday night.
Here is What the City is Doing to Prepare:
- Transportation and Environmental Services (T&ES) is brining all critical roadways today, with a focus on ice-prone areas such as hills, bridges, and overpasses.
- The Department of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities (RPCA) will conduct pre-treatment activities starting tomorrow. Areas to receive advance treatment include Alexandria City Public Schools and the Chinquapin Park Recreation Center, Metrorail stations, and then other City recreation facilities.
- The Department of Community & Human Services (DCHS) Winter Shelter at 2355-A Mill Road is open from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. each night. DCHS is monitoring the weather and will adjust operating hours as needed.
