Cornerstone Craftsman, a local non-profit that provides local teens with instruction, tools and mentoring to work in skilled trades, is hosting a grand opening for a new facility on Eisenhower Avenue next month.
The new location is at 2111 Eisenhower Avenue. The grand opening is scheduled for noon on Feb. 28.
The program serves local kids from ages 12-17, offering mentoring and guidance with an aim of offering a career path and an alternative to gang-related violence, substance abuse and more.
“Our students meet with our instructors/mentors twice a month during the school year and more frequently during the summer at Cornerstone Craftsman’s Learning Center at 2111 Eisenhower Avenue to complete hands-on projects, master technical lessons and advance in the skilled trades,” the program’s website said.
The program previously operated a workshop at 669 John Carlyle Street through an in-kind donation from the Alexandria Police Department before moving to the new facility.
Beyond those classes, the program offers mentorship and education for skills like conflict resolution, accountability and more.
“Our core program helps these young men and women build a viable career path, earn a livable wage, and pursue economic self-sufficiency,” the site said. “Additionally, Cornerstone Craftsman works closely with court services and families in assisting youth toward a successful transition from juvenile detention and probation.”
