PHOTOS: The first snowstorm of the year in Alexandria

Alexandria was transformed into a winter wonderland Monday morning.

It was quiet around the city Monday morning, as schools were canceled and local roadways are snow-covered.

There’s no word yet from Alexandria City Public Schools on whether schools will stay closed or reopen Tuesday. In the meantime, the School Board induction ceremony has been moved to a virtual setting.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect in Alexandria until 1 a.m. Tuesday. The National Weather Service warns of heavy snow and advises against all non-essential travel.
