Lindsay Automotive Group, a set of car dealerships based in Alexandria, is being sued by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Maryland Attorney General for falsely advertising low prices and overcharging customers for years, according to WTOP.

Lindsay operates the Lindsay Lexus, Lindsay Volvo and Lindsay Cadillac dealerships near the King/Quaker/Braddock intersection, as well as other car dealerships throughout the region.

The lawsuit alleges that Lindsay tricked customers with bait and switch advertising, charged consumers for add-ons they did not want, and deceived consumers about their financing options. The deceptive practices allegedly cost customers millions over the years.

WTOP said the suit alleges that 88% of consumers who bought a car from Lindsay’s dealerships between 2020 and 2023 paid, on average, $2,000 more than the advertised price. Consumers were also told they’d have to pay additional fees if they chose not to finance through a lender Lindsay was associated with, according to the complaint.

Lindsay Automotive Group said in a release statement to WTOP that the company “strongly refute any suggestion of improper conduct and will work to resolve this matter through the legal process.”
