The Sportrock Climbing Center (5308 Eisenhower Avenue) in Alexandria was featured on a 60 Minutes program about rock climbers with Parkinson’s Disease.

The story focused on a group of rock climbers in a group called Upending Parkinson’s, a group of people with Parkinson’s who use rock climbing as a way of improving balance, mobility and more, while also finding community with others who are struggling with the disease.

The group was founded by Molly Donelan-Cupka, the director of Sportrock Climbing Centers, Alexandria, in 2012. While Parkinson’s affects mobility and speech, many in the group are able to overcome those obstacles to scale cliff faces in the gym and around the region.
