The Alexandria Health Department said it is working to provide lead testing for students, faculty and staff at Naomi L. Brooks Elementary School, which closed after possible lead exposure.
Testing for lead requires a blood test. According to the Alexandria Health Department:
We understand the concern and anxiety within our community regarding potential lead exposure. The Alexandria Health Department (AHD) is continuing to work closely with ACPS to provide guidance on health and lead safety. AHD is also working to share information with health care providers in the community. Students, staff and faculty at Naomi L. Brooks are recommended to get a blood lead level test. A blood lead level test can be requested from a health care provider. Providers can contact AHD for more information on testing and lead safety.Additionally, AHD is securing staff and resources to provide testing to students, faculty and staff from Naomi L. Brooks this week. Details will be shared as soon as possible.
The Alexandria Health Department’s call center is available during normal business hours at 703-746-4988 for health concerns or questions.
The Virginia Department of Health and the Alexandria Health Department are also holding a webinar tonight with the school community to share more information about lead and answer specific health-related questions.
