Alexandria City Public Schools will soon make public an enrollment dashboard revealing the number of students and teachers at their schools on a monthly basis.
ACPS must submit a monthly student membership report to the Virginia Department of Education, and that information will be made public in the new dashboard next month, according to the school system.
“Publishing monthly membership (enrollment) reports will provide the Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) community with regular updates throughout the school year and will provide transparency in our process and monitoring efforts,” ACPS Chief Technology Officer Elizabeth Hoover said.
There were 16,071 students in ACPS in the 2023-2024 school year, a 4% increase over the 15,477 students in the 2022-2023 school year, according to enrollment data. The number of students is expected to decline over the next decade, but peak in fiscal year 2028.
The dashboard will include:
- Enrollment by school at the beginning of each month from October through June
- Average elementary homeroom class size
- Fall membership (enrollment) reports
- Enrollment and projections infographic, including student transfer data
- Student membership by ethnicity, whether they are English learners, or have disabilities
- A link to the ACPS redistricting webpage
According to ACPS:
The dashboard plan will be publicly shared in the superintendent’s announcements during the September 19, 2024 School Board meeting and will be included in the September 27 and the October 4 editions of the ACPS Express newsletter. The new Student Membership (enrollment) Page will be available on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. Following the October 1 launch, the page will be updated on the first business day of each month through June by 5:00 p.m. The annual Fall Membership (enrollment) Report will be formally shared with the School Board at its November 7, 2024 meeting
