Notes: Hard Times Cafe, Nando’s and more competing in charity ‘Cook-Off’ next month

Local nonprofit Carpenter’s Shelter is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its Cook-Off event this year, Patch reported.

The event will be held at The Birchmere (3701 Mount Vernon Avenue) from noon to 3 p.m. on Oct. 13. There, 20 restaurants will compete for awards from critics, the people, and children.

Competing restaurants include Hard Times Cafe, Nando’s Peri-Peri, and Hen Quarter.

The “Early Bird” tickets, available until Oct. 11, are $50 for adults and $20 for children, going up to $75 and $25 respectively after Oct. 11. All proceeds go to support Carpenter’s Shelter.
