Campagna Center, an Alexandria non-profit that helps local children and families, will be hosting a celebration showcasing Alexandria’s diverse cultures with the help of some grant funding from another local nonprofit.

Campagna Center is hosting Welcoming Week 2024 on Sunday, Sept. 15, at its headquarters at 418 S. Washington Street. The event will be funded, in part, via a $2,000 grant from fellow nonprofit ACT for Alexandria.

“Celebrate Welcoming Week 2024, with a special community event showcasing the diverse cultures and stories of families in the Alexandria area,” a release said. “Enjoy an afternoon of storytelling, poetry, and engaging activities designed to build connections and understand the impact of community members.”

Campagna Center said the event will run from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday.

The program will include include:

  • 2:30 p.m. Family Storytime with Hanh Bui, author of the picture book “Anh’s New Word”
  • 3 p.m. Poetry Readings and Mini-Poetry Workshop with City of Alexandria Poet Laureate Zeina Azzam
  • Interactive literacy activities for all ages
  • Complimentary refreshments and desserts
  • Each family will receive a special package of free books for their home library

Other events around town include a Nueva Vida celebration of Latino cultures at Market Square on Sunday, Sept. 22 and an event hosted by Tenants and Workers United at 3801 Mount Vernon Avenue on Saturday, Sept. 21.
