After some humid but relatively mild summer days, Alexandria and other nearby localities are back under an Excessive Heat Warning.
The excessive heat warning is in effect from noon today to 8 p.m. this evening, with heat index values up to 110 degrees.
The National Weather Service (NWS) warned that “extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat-related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.”
The NWS advised people in Alexandria and nearby jurisdictions to:
- Drink plenty of fluids
- Stay in air-conditioned rooms
- Stay out of the sun
- Check up on relatives and neighbors
- Never leave pets or children unattended in vehicles
Some of that could be mitigated by showers and a thunderstorm after 5 p.m. The heat index value for tomorrow is forecast to be slightly lower at 102 degrees.
