New ‘ALX Closet’ opens to provide emergency resources to Alexandria families in need

Alexandria families in an emergency or a crisis now have a one-stop shop for children’s clothing, basic necessities and more.

Local nonprofits The Center for Alexandria’s Children and The Fund for Alexandria’s Child is opening ALX Closet, a new resource center dedicated to helping Alexandria’s children and families get access to necessities in times of need. ALX Closet is located in the Del Pepper Community Resource Center at 4850 Mark Center Drive — aka West End Town Hall.

According to a release:

ALX Closet is dedicated to supporting Alexandria’s children and families in times of emergency or crisis by providing essential items to people in need, ensuring that every child and family has access to clothing and other necessities during challenging times. ALX Closet will be stocked with:

  • Children’s clothing up to size 14/16 (and gift cards, as available)
  • Additional family resources: diapers, wipes, formula
  • Toiletries and hygiene products

The release noted that ALX Closet is also accepting donations to help fill those shelves:

We are asking for the community’s help to fill our shelves! To ensure we can support as many families as possible, ALX Closet is accepting donations of brand-new children’s clothing (up to size 16), along with the items listed above. Donations can be brought to the address above. Your tax-deductible contributions will make a significant difference in the lives of Alexandria’s children and families. We also welcome inquiries about forming community partnerships.  Email christine.levine@alexandriava.gov. Together, we can provide the support and resources that families need to thrive.
