Notes: Del Ray celebration this Thursday doubling as food drive for veterans

The Del Ray Business Association is hosting a festive neighborhood celebration this Thursday that will also help benefit Cook for Vets, a non-profit helping to feed veterans and their families.

First Thursday: Red, White and Blue is scheduled for Thursday, July 11, from 6 p.m. to dusk all along Mount Vernon Avenue.

The event will include live music and themed activities.

According to a release:

This event is sponsored by the Jen Walker Team and is benefiting Cook for Vets, a non-profit that provides food security for Veterans and their households through the distribution of healthy meals and groceries for balanced, sustained nutrition. Donations needed include unopened & unexpired rice, pasta, quinoa; pickles/relish; canned vegetables; vegetarian baked beans; oatmeal (both single-serving packets and large containers); single-serving cereal; fruit cups; applesauce cups; granola/breakfast bars; crackers; individual-servings of mini-muffins; nuts; chicken/beef broth boxes (no cans); raisins; water bottles; and canned and dry cat food. Donations can be dropped off at the Pat Miller Neighborhood Square, located at the intersection of Mt. Vernon & Oxford Avenues.
