A 34-year-old D.C. man was held without bond in the Alexandria jail for 18 days last month for allegedly dropping off a friend at the jail in a stolen car with an illegal firearm.

On June 3, the Alexandria Police Department used a GPS to find a red Ford Mustang with North Carolina license plates parked near the front gate of the William G. Truesdale Adult Detention Center (2001 Mill Road), according to a recently released search warrant affidavit.

Police arrested the man standing at the rear of the vehicle and found that he was a convicted felon. A passenger in the car told police that he was being dropped off to check in with his pre-trial officer at the jail for strangulation and assault and battery charges, and was unaware that the car was stolen, according to the search warrant affidavit.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Bryan Porter said that his office determined there wasn’t enough evidence to maintain the prosecution and entered a nolle prosequi to not proceed with the case.

“It remains under investigation and we may be able to re-charge in the future,” Porter said.
