Metro fares are set to increase this weekend in an effort to prevent service cuts, Washingtonian reported.

Fares are set to increase starting on Sunday, June 30, as part of a plan to keep Metro running despite a $750 million budget gap.

The new fares bump the maximum fare from $6 to $6.75 and base fare up to $2.25, while late nights and weekend fares — formerly $2 — will be anywhere between $2.25 and $2.50 depending on the distance.
