Notes: School Board adopts budget with multiple replacement and major renovation projects

The Alexandria City School Board voted last night to adopt the FY 2025 combined funds budget, the last major act to bring this budget cycle to a close.

The combined funds budget totals to $378.2 million with an FY 2025-34 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) budget of $379.5 million.

“The adoption of the Final FY 2025 Combined Funds Budget allows the division to continue our focus and efforts on recruitment and retention, aiding in maintaining a diverse and talented workforce to educate our future,” said Alexandria City Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Melanie Kay-Wyatt in a release. “ I am extremely appreciative of the collaboration of our financial services team, division staff, City Council and the Alexandria City School Board, for their work, dedication to our students and shared vision for a prosperous future.”

Major items in the CIP include:

  • modernizing the Transportation Facility for ACPS
  • replacement of the George Mason and Cora Kelly Elementary Schools
  • Funding deferred playground maintenance
  • REnovation project to convert the upper two floors of 1701 N. Beauregard Street to office space
