Notes: Alexandria’s population increasing but still hasn’t recovered from Covid decline

☀️ Today’s weather: Expect mostly sunny skies and a high of around 53 degrees, with a northeast wind of 6 to 10 mph shifting to the south in the afternoon. Rain will arrive on Friday night, primarily after 11pm, accompanied by patchy fog developing after 2am. Nighttime lows will be around 46 degrees, with a southeast wind of 7 to 10 mph. The City of Alexandria’s population dipped during the Covid pandemic, and Patch reported earlier this week that the city hasn’t quite recovered to its pre-Covid population count.

Between 2020 and 2023, Alexandria’s population has cumulatively declined by a total of 4,234 people according to U.S. census data. Over the last year, the city’s seen some population growth — increasing by 185.

The city’s population was 159,139 before the pandemic. In 2023, it’s 155,230 — up from 155,045 last year.

Monarch Montessori School is now enrolling infants, toddlers and three year-olds for its full-time Montessori program. We offer a seamless enrollment process which involves submitting an application for review, paying the enrollment fee and submitting the remaining enrollment materials before your proposed start date.
