It’s been a busy news week in Alexandria. On the positive site: one of the bigger stories is that the city achieved zero traffic fatalities in 2023.

It’s a significant accomplishment for Alexandria, which since 2017 has had a Vision Zero goal.

As laudable as the achievement is, as some of the comments noted, there’s still work to be done on improving transportation safety around the city to keep that at zero and reduce the number of serious injuries.

Last year, the city received a grant to review seven high-crash intersections around the city’s West End and over the next few years, the city will be doing transportation analysis and begin a design processes to reduce crashes.
