Inova Alexandria Hospital has been recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a “Magnet hospital” — a hospital with a strong history of education and support for nurses.

The American Nurses Credentialing Center described the Magnet program on their website as:

The Magnet Recognition Program designates organizations worldwide where nursing leaders successfully align their nursing strategic goals to improve the organization’s patient outcomes. The Magnet Recognition Program provides a roadmap to nursing excellence, which benefits the whole of an organization. To nurses, Magnet Recognition means education and development through every career stage, which leads to greater autonomy at the bedside. To patients, it means the very best care, delivered by nurses who are supported to be the very best that they can be.

That designation comes with a list of requirements for eligibility, including nurses in leadership roles in the hospital.

A release from Inova noted that only around 10% of hospitals around the United States have Magnet status and, with the addition of Inova Alexandria, all five Inova hospitals are Magnet certified.

“This achievement is a testament to the Inova Alexandria Hospital nurses… who, each day, pledge to provide a standard of care that is not just exemplary, but transformative,” Maureen Sintich, chief nurse executive at Inova, said in the release, “and reflects the collective effort of all Inova nurses who work tirelessly to meet and exceed the rigorous standards set by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.”
