A 16-year-old Alexandria resident has pleaded guilty to the 2016 murder of a 14-year-old in Holmes Run Stream Valley Park.
Edwin Orellana Caballero pleaded guilty in connection with the kidnapping and murder of a 14-year-old victim. The boy was lured to the park, just west of Alexandria, and murdered in a wooded area with knives, machetes and a pickaxe. The U.S. Attorney’s Office release said Caballero struck the victim multiple times with a pickaxe.
Caballero faces a minimum of 20 years in prison and a maximum of 25 years, to be determined at a sentencing next February.
The release said 17 defendants have been charged in the case. Five have gone to trial and were convicted of all charges. Ten total defendants have pleaded guilty prior to the trial.
