New Alexandria Police Assistant Chief Tina Laguna (via APD)

As Alexandria welcomes Captain Tina Laguna as one of the new hires within the Alexandria Police Department (APD) leadership, over in Manassas, the city is saying goodbye to a Captain who’s served there for nearly 30 years.

A profile in Potomac Local said Laguna got her start at the city’s 911 call center in 1994 and has since served in every division within the Manassas City Police Department (MCPD).

Laguna told Potomac Local that her goal is eventually to become a Chief of Police and have a greater impact on her community. Laguna also noted that the APD is larger than the MCPD and there are more opportunities for professional growth.

Laguna will take charge of the APD Administrative and Technology Bureau, as well as “areas related to accreditation, training and recruitment, along with fleet, facility, and records management,” according to APD.

She has a master’s degree in public administration and a bachelor’s degree in Criminology, Law, and Society from George Mason University, according to MCPD.
