Notes: Alexandria extends public pool season due to heat wave

☀️ Today’s weather: The weather forecast predicts sunny and hot conditions with a high temperature near 100°F and a northwest wind at approximately 6 mph. As for Wednesday night, the skies will be mostly clear, with low temperatures settling around 76°F, accompanied by a west wind around 5 mph that will become light and variable.

The Old Town pool was supposed to close this weekend, but the city is keeping it open amid a heat wave.

A heat advisory was issued for Alexandria yesterday, with the heat index reaching over 100 degrees.

The Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities (RPCA) announced yesterday that the Old Town Pool (1609 Cameron Street) would be open from Tuesday, Sept. 5 to Friday, Sept. 8, from 3:30-7:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

The RPCA also said several facilities around town are open to serve as cooling centers to offer air conditioning, water and first aid to residents and visitors.

  • Charles Houston Recreation Center (901 Wythe Street): 9 a.m – 9 p.m.
  • Leonard “Chick” Armstrong Recreation Center (25 W. Reed Avenue.): 9 a.m – 9 p.m.
  • Lee Center (1108 Jefferson Street): 9 a.m – 7 p.m.
  • Mount Vernon Recreation Center (2701 Commonwealth Avenue): 9 a.m – 9 p.m.
  • Patrick Henry Recreation Center (4653 Taney Avenue): 9 a.m – 9 p.m.
  • William Ramsay Recreation Center (5650 Sanger Avenue): 9 a.m – 9 p.m.
