🚨 You need to know

A new story from Restaurant Business Online highlighted a new-ish program that could help restaurants save lives.

The program adds an optional 10-15 minutes class on how to save someone overdosing on fentanyl, Oxycodone or another opioid onto the next routine health inspection.

Restaurant Business Online reported that the instruction is fairly basic: things like how to administer Narcan, along with strips for detecting when a drug has been cut with fentanyl.

Around 54 restaurants have participated with 100 employees trained since the program launched in January.

Like much of the country, Alexandria has struggled with combatting an uptick in opioid overdoses. Earlier this year, two Alexandria City High School teens reportedly overdosed and one died.

City Hall is lit up in teal this week in an effort to raise awareness of the opioid epidemic.
