Notes: Holidays are over, what should you do with your tree?

Good Wednesday morning, Alexandria!

Today’s weather: Rain in the afternoon and evening. High of 67 and low of 51.
Tomorrow: Partly cloudy throughout the day. High of 66 and low of 49. Sunrise at 7:28 am and sunset at 5:00 pm.

🚨 You need to know

If you’ve still got a Christmas tree up at home, this might be the week to get rid of it.

The city started collecting natural Christmas trees with regular yard waste collection yesterday. Once taken, the trees will be composted. Alexandrians have until Tuesday, Jan. 31, to use yard waste collection to get rid of their trees.

Locals can just leave the trees out for collection, though they’re asked to remove ornament, tinsel, lights and such. Trees also shouldn’t be placed in plastic bags and should be out at the regular yard waste collection point by 6 a.m.

Also bear in mind that trash collection has shifted this week: if your trash usually goes out on Wednesday, the truck will be coming by tomorrow to pick that up.
