Vola’s Dockside Grill and Riverside Taco in Old Town Reopen

A pair of waterfront eateries have joined the ranks of other restaurants across the city reopening for takeout and delivery.

Vola’s Dockside Grill and Riverside Taco Company, both located at 101 N. Union Street at the foot of King Street on the waterfront, are reopening today (Tuesday). Both restaurants will be open every day from 11 a.m.-9 p.m.

They aren’t alone in reopening. Virtue Feed and Grain (106 S. Union Street) just down the block reopened a few days ago and other restaurants, like Mia’s Italian Kitchen, have been open for the last few months for delivery and takeout.

The Vola’s carryout menu includes favorites like fish and chips and Chesapeake chowder while Riverside Taco offers — as the name suggests — a variety of tacos for around $4 and a selection of bowls.

Vola’s also offers a selection of cocktails, taking advantage of the new regulation, including a margarita-gram that can be sent to a friend in Alexandria.

Once the pandemic is over, the Riverside Taco Company will also be free to play live music on the waterfront.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
