Alexandria City Public Schools students will round out this snowy week with another day of synchronous virtual learning tomorrow (Friday).
ACPS facilities will continue to remain closed, Superintendent Melanie Kay-Wyatt announced this afternoon. ACPS is “monitoring the weather forecast for this weekend and will provide an update on Sunday by 6 p.m.,” Kay-Wyatt said.

ACPS facilities will continue to remain closed, Superintendent Melanie Kay-Wyatt announced this afternoon. The district will also continue to distribute lunches free of charge to all kids under 18 at two school locations, in accordance with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s meal waiver program.
A local community foundation’s 2026 scholarship cycle includes 11 awards that are now accepting applications from Alexandria students.
The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia opened applications for more than 30 regional scholarships on Monday. At least 11 awards are open to Alexandria students, including those studying medicine, music and the environment.
Student achievement across Alexandria City Public Schools appears to be hovering steady compared to last year, according to new state data, but the district’s numbers still linger behind the commonwealth.
In the 2024-2025 school year, 62% percent of ACPS students passed state reading tests, up one percentage point from the year prior, according to Virginia Department of Education’s accountability system, the School Performance and Support Framework.
