We’re incredibly grateful that you’re part of the ALXnow community. Now, we invite you to take your connection with local news to the next level by joining the ALXnow Press Club.

New research from the Pew Research Center reveals a stark reality about how Americans consume news. While 74% of Americans regularly encounter paywalls when searching for news online, only 17% actually pay for journalism. When people encounter a paywall, only 1% pay for access; most either look elsewhere for free content (53%) or give up (32%).

Less than two months after its debut, the ALXnow Press Club is rapidly building a dedicated following, attracting nearly 100 founding members and now adding even more exclusive engagement opportunities.

The membership program, created for loyal readers of ALXnow, is designed to provide enhanced access to local news and foster a closer connection between Alexandrians and the team delivering their daily updates.

Launched just last month, the ALXnow Press Club is already building a strong community, attracting 93 founding members in its inaugural weeks. The exclusive membership program, designed for dedicated readers of ALXnow, offers enhanced access to local news and unique opportunities to connect with the team behind Alexandria’s go-to news source.

The Press Club aims to provide members with tools to “save time, learn more, and support local independent news,” offering a suite of benefits tailored to engaged Alexandrians.

Around Town

In March, we published 220 stories, the most ever published in a single month on the website, and reached 430,316 visitors, a 38% increase in traffic year over year. Just seventeen days into April, and we’re averaging ten new stories per day.

We’re conducting in-depth investigations into city government and budgets, reporting regularly on Alexandria City Public Schools, and diligently covering beats such as criminal justice and local business. We attend nearly every notable local meeting and provide daily coverage of events happening across the city.
