Multiple violent charges against a 25-year-old Fairfax County man have been dismissed in court, although the man remains in the Alexandria jail without bond after allegedly assaulting police during his arrest.
The suspect was arrested on July 27 for carjacking, assault and battery, brandishing a firearm and and assaulting police.
Maryland cold case victim was an Alexandria resident — “An Alexandria teen was identified as the victim in a cold case killing 45 years ago. Until now, she was known as the ‘Woodlawn Jane Doe.’ The body of Margaret Fetterolf, 16, of Alexandria, Virginia was found in the 5600 block of Dogwood Road near Lorraine Park Cemetery in Woodlawn, Maryland on Sept. 12, 1976.” [Patch]

A 26-year-old Alexandria man arrested in July for robbing EagleBank in Old Town previously spent more than two years in jail for robbing another Alexandria bank.
On July 7, Dagmawee Dawit allegedly walked into EagleBank at 277 S. Washington Street in Old Town just after it opened at 8:30 a.m., implied he had a weapon and demanded cash from a teller.
There were no injuries after shots were fired at apartments and vehicles in the Landmark area on Tuesday night, September 14.
The incident occurred at the South Port Apartments at 6112 Edsall Road at around 9:35 p.m.
Alexandria Police are reporting double-digit increases in burglary and drunk driving arrests so far this year.
In an update to the Health and Safety Coordinating Committee, police reported a 35% increase in driving while intoxicated arrests (136 incidents) — as of August 2021.

A 30-year-old Alexandria man is being held without bond after allegedly committing sexual battery on a woman and following other women in the Landmark area on Thursday night.
Police responded to the 300 block of S. Reynolds Street at around 5:45 p.m. to investigate a report of a disorderly person, according to a release.
Gun used in murder belonged to suspect’s bondsman — “The homicide of Alexandria resident Karla Dominguez last summer sparked widespread uproar because her alleged murderer, Ibrahim Bouaichi, had been released on bond in April despite having been indicted for allegedly raping and assaulting Dominguez in October 2019. Now, new information reveals that the bondsman who posted bail for Bouaichi knew him beforehand and that both the vehicle and weapon Bouaichi used to commit the murder belonged to the bondsman, Man Nguyen.” [Alex Times]
Twenty years later, residents recall the September 11 attacks — “Two residents had been on the plane that hit the Pentagon and many more residents had friends and other people from their lives who had been killed or impacted by the attacks on New York City and the Pentagon and the crash in Pennsylvania. Alexandria Police say that a string of robberies from 7-Eleven convenience stores in the city and in Fairfax County are connected.
The most recent incident occurred just before midnight on August 19 at the 7-Eleven at 1025 W. Glebe Road. The clerk told police that the male suspect was buying a Black & Mild cigar. He handed over cash, but when the register opened he pushed the clerk away, “lunged” over the counter and stole about $30 in cash, police said in a search warrant.
Two men have been arrested after shooting at police from a vehicle at police in the Hume Springs neighborhood early Wednesday morning.
The identities of the suspects — 18-year-old Alexandria resident and 20-year-old non-city resident — have not yet been released, but they have been charged with shooting missiles at an occupied vehicle, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and illegal possession of a firearm.
There were no reported injuries after shots were fired in Old Town early on Sunday night (September 5).
The incident occurred in the 900 block of S. Alfred Street near Gibbon Street, which is a residential area full of town homes in the southern portion of Old Town.
