Random Harvest Home, a store that sells a handpicked selection of furniture and accessories, is closing its Alexandria store and slashing prices on its inventory.

The store at 814 King Street will close its doors for good on Sunday, May 4. Until then, shoppers can grab furniture and pillows at 25% off, while lamps, prints, and small accessories are 30% off.

A North Carolina murder suspect was recently arrested in Alexandria and has been charged with murder and robbery with a deadly weapon.

The victim, 25-year-old Jose Alexander Lara Hernandez, was shot to death in Charlotte on April 19. Two days later, the Alexandria Police Department was notified by a license plate reader that a car belonging to the suspect, Danny Cardoza Lara, was located in the parking lot of a hotel in the 100 block of S. Bragg Street in the city’s West End.


A woman is safe after allegedly being abducted and assaulted by a naked man along the Mount Vernon Trail in Old Town North earlier this month.

“The suspect pinned both of her forearms down and she fought to break free,” police said a recently released search warrant affidavit. “(The victim) said she realized the suspect was fully naked when he was on top of her and she saw his penis. (The victim) tried to push him away specifically with her right hand to the suspect’s left arm. (The victim) said she yelled and the suspect covered her mouth with his hand. The suspect told her, ‘Do you want to die?'”


Alexandria has seen a 32.1% increase in new listings compared to the same time last year, according to the latest monthly listing and sales data from the Northern Virginia Association of Realtors (NVAR).

In the week ending April 27, 2025, Alexandria saw 70 new listings hit the market, a 22.8% increase from the previous week.


Heads up, drivers – expect some overnight delays on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge next week.

The Virginia Department of Transportation says the bridge will have maintenance openings from 10 p.m. on May 8 to 5 a.m. on May 9, weather permitting.

Alexandria is set to gain from new transit projects planned for the I-395/95 corridor. The Northern Virginia Transportation Commission is reviewing 14 proposals aimed at easing traffic congestion, with several directly impacting the city.

The I-395/95 Commuter Choice program, which uses toll revenue for transportation improvements, includes potential upgrades to Alexandria’s DASH bus service in its draft project list.
