The Alexandria Police Department has released a list of participating communities in the city for National Night Out.

The national event on Aug. 5 (Thursday) is intended to bring police closer to their communities with hot dogs, games, and raffles. The Alexandria Police Department has released a list of dozens of participants (see below).


With fewer than four months to go before Virginians elect a new slate of statewide leaders, a new poll from Virginia Commonwealth University’s L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs finds Democrats holding early leads in all three top races — and voters sharply focused on economic pressures and personal freedoms.

The latest Commonwealth Poll, conducted June 19–July 3, captures evolving voter sentiment in advance of the 2025 election and suggests momentum has shifted further toward Democratic candidates, particularly among independents.


The Alexandria Aces have achieved a new milestone, setting a franchise record with seven former players selected in the 2025 MLB Draft held July 13-14.

The previous record was five draft selections in 2019, with the team also seeing four players chosen in both 2017 and 2015. This year’s draft class brings the Aces’ total to 50 players sent to MLB organizations over their 17 seasons, averaging nearly three draftees per year.

Alexandria has exceeded the 2030 regional goals for developing new affordable housing, and now the city is setting its sights on establishing a new benchmark for 2040.

On July 30 (Wednesday), the Alexandria Housing Affordability Advisory Committee will discuss housing affordability targets and other considerations going into the city’s Housing 2040 Master Plan. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. via Zoom.


There’s a new business in Old Town that’s not only raising eyebrows, but extending lashes.

Wink Lash Art moved to its new location on the second floor of 201 King Street (above Comfort One Shoes) at the end of June. Owner Bianca Claudia Briscan says that the 850-square-foot space more than doubles the area she and her staff worked with the last six years at their previous location at 300 S. Washington Street.


One burn victim was transported to the hospital after a fire in a shed containing paint and chemicals behind the Hertz office at 3800 Richmond Highway.

The incident was reported at approximately 9:45 a.m., with the incorrect address listed as Alexandria Toyota, located at 3750 Richmond Highway. Instead, Alexandria and Arlington firefighters found a storage shed in the rear parking lot of the next-door Hertz property “actively on fire.”


Alexandria is fundraising for one of its historic crown jewels, which is undergoing renovation.

The Office of Historic Alexandria is conducting a historical discussion and fundraiser on Sunday, July 20, at the Morrison House Hotel (116 S. Alfred Street) to benefit the Freedom House restoration project. The event features a historic discussion on the former slave pen with actor William T. Newman and town crier Ben Fiore-Walker, as well as readings from the Alexandria-based mystery novel “Spite House” by John Wasowicz.

A great end-of-summer event is right around the corner in Alexandria’s Del Ray neighborhood.

The 5th annual Bands & Brews: Del Ray’s Summer Bar Crawl returns on Saturday, Aug. 16. From 12 to 6:30 p.m., more than 20 venues will host live music throughout the neighborhood. The Del Ray Business Association is expecting up to 2,000 visitors at the event, according to a recent event listing.


Attention Swifties: There are only a few weeks left before Eras, the Taylor Swift-themed pop-up bar, closes in Del Ray.

That’s right — no more lines around the block, friendship bracelet-making, or Taylor Swift trivia nights at 2312 Mount Vernon Avenue. After more than six months in operation, Eras will close the first weekend in August, owner Bill Blackburn tells ALXnow.
