Between 2 and 4 inches of snowfall are expected to fall over Alexandria tomorrow (Sunday), according to a new Winter Weather Advisory issued by the National Weather Service this afternoon.

A mix of rain and snow are expected during the day Sunday, which could transition into full snowfall after 10 p.m., according to the latest NWS forecast. The new advisory tells D.C.-area residents to “plan on slippery road conditions.” It will be in effect from 5 p.m. Sunday through 10 a.m. Monday, potentially affecting commutes.

Wind gusts up to 60 mph could reach Alexandria this weekend as the National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning in the region.

This weekend in the D.C. area is expected to be very windy and cold, with wind chills between 0 and 10 degrees below zero, according to NWS. The advisory warns of potential tree and power line damage as well as travel difficulties and hypothermia with exposure.

The Washington Post says one-third of its staff across all departments, not just the newsroom, is being laid off.

A proposal to add seven new townhomes on Seminary Road is headed to the Planning Commission this week (docket item 9) and has stirred up some controversy in the neighborhood.

The plan by Verity Builders LLC is to build six market-rate townhouses and one affordable townhouse at 5216 Seminary Road. Each home will be three stories plus a roof deck and garage.
