Meet exhibiting artist Rebecca J. White during her solo exhibition, Birth of a Torii 鳥居の生まれ, at The Athenaeum. Inspired by years living in Japan and a background in electronics, Rebecca’s paintings reimagine the origin of the torii 鳥居, the traditional Japanese gate to a sacred space, while exploring cultural connection through layered acrylic landscapes.
The Meet the Artist event will be held Saturday, August 22 at 2:00 p.m. at The Athenaeum, 201 Prince Street, Alexandria, VA 22314.
Birth of a Torii 鳥居の生まれ is on view through September 13, 2026. An Artist’s Talk will be held on Sunday, September 13 at 2:00 p.m. as a closing opportunity to experience the work before the exhibition ends.
