Hotel AKA in Old Town North will transition into a Marriott Autograph Collection on June 17, according to the Washington Business Journal.
Electra American, which acquired the 180-room former Holiday Inn at 625 First Street in 2021, made the deal to change the hotel brand. The hotel was redesigned by Italian architect Piero Lissoni, then renovated and reopened as Hotel AKA in 2023.
Another Hotel AKA location in D.C.’s Washington Circle will also transition into a Tapestry Collection by Hilton on June 23. There is another AKA-branded hotel at 1710 H St. NW near the White House.
“Our ownership approach has centered on thoughtful investment and long-term positioning,” Russ Urban, CEO at Electra America, told WBJ. “In partnership with AKA, we successfully elevated both properties into highly competitive hospitality assets. These brands are exceptionally well positioned for their next phase.”
The news comes as the hotel will serve as the temporary lodgings for the Croatian National Football Team, which is using Alexandria as its World Cup base camp.
