There’s no doubt that Gunner‘s gaze will bring a smile to your face, and the medium-sized terrier is up for adoption with the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria.
“Gunner is an energetic, intelligent young man who loves to show off his tricks for treats and shower his friends in kisses,” said Gina Hardter, a spokesperson for the AWLA, who says he is currently her favorite pet at the shelter. “I’m trying to teach him the command, ‘Give kisses,’ but he loves to kiss so much that he’s already way ahead of me.”
Two-year-old Gunner and a few of his canine companions came to Alexandria from a shelter in Louisiana that was impacted by Hurricane Zeta in October. He’s currently undergoing heartworm treatment, which AWLA will complete at no cost to the family that adopts him.
“If you have a lap, you can bet Gunner wants to be in or near it,” Hardter said.
If you want to buy Gunner or his fellow adoptees a holiday gift, AWLA is asking for pet presents in its (Stocking) Stuff the Van event. The event takes place on Dec. 24 with virtual and in-person options.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
