APD extends application deadline to Friday for spring Community Police Academy

The Alexandria Police Department has extended the deadline to apply to its spring Community Police Academy to tomorrow (Friday).

The free nine-week program gives the public a chance to get a behind-the-scenes look at APD’s operations. The deadline was previously scheduled on Monday this week.

“Participants engage directly with APD leadership, officers, and professional staff through classroom instruction, discussion, and interactive learning. Sessions explore patrol operations, investigations, behavioral health response, specialized units, training, accountability, and more,” APD said in a release. “Designed to increase transparency, deepen understanding, and strengthen community relationships, the Academy provides a unique opportunity to learn how modern policing works in Alexandria.”

The spring academy is sponsored by the Alexandria Police Foundation and meets weekly, starting on Wednesday, March 11, at APD’s headquarters (3600 Wheeler Avenue).

Anyone with questions on the program can reach out to the APD volunteer office at [email protected].
