Four leading local conservation groups are joining forces to tackle litter and protect our waterways at the Mega Trash Bash, a community cleanup event on Saturday, November 15. Volunteers from across Northern Virginia will gather to clean up trash along beloved outdoor spaces, including the Mount Vernon Trail, Daingerfield Island, Four Mile Run, Rosslyn-Ballston, and nearby streams that drain into the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay.
The event is hosted in partnership by:
Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail, Potomac Conservancy, Four Mile Run Conservatory Foundation, and NOVA Cleanups
Together, these organizations will mobilize volunteers to remove hundreds of pounds of litter that would otherwise harm wildlife, pollute waterways, and detract from the beauty of our public lands.
“Trash left on our trails and streets doesn’t just stay there—it washes into our rivers and ultimately into the Potomac River,” said Anna Cooper (volunteer leader with the Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail). “By working together as a community, we can make a visible difference in just a few hours.”

Last year, local volunteers removed thousands of pounds of trash, including plastics, tires, and other debris. Organizers hope the Mega Trash Bash will inspire even more people to step up for clean trails and healthy rivers.
