Spanberger to make Alexandria stop on 11-day statewide bus tour

Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger will bring her “Virginia Votes Bus Tour” to Alexandria on Thursday, Oct. 30, as part of an 11-day, 40-plus-stop campaign swing across Virginia ahead of Election Day.

The Democratic gubernatorial candidate announced the tour Monday, saying she will visit all 11 of Virginia’s congressional districts between Oct. 25 and Election Day on Nov. 4.

Alexandria is among four Northern Virginia stops scheduled for Oct. 30, along with Prince William County, Fairfax and Manassas. Spanberger will also make additional Northern Virginia stops on Nov. 2 in Prince William County, Fairfax and Falls Church.

“Since I launched my campaign to serve Virginians as their next Governor, I have been traveling across the Commonwealth and listening to Virginians share the challenges facing their families — from high costs to job losses and threats to their businesses,” Spanberger said in a statement.

The tour will focus on encouraging Virginians to cast their ballots and highlighting Spanberger’s plans to lower costs for families, grow Virginia’s economy and strengthen schools, according to the campaign.

Spanberger has represented Virginia’s 7th Congressional District since 2019. She faces Republican Winsome Earle-Sears, Virginia’s current lieutenant governor, in the Nov. 4 election.

This is Spanberger’s second statewide bus tour of the campaign. Earlier this year, she completed an eight-day, 49-stop tour across the commonwealth.

The campaign says that it has rolled out policy proposals on lowering healthcare, housing and energy costs; expanding workforce training and business investment; and strengthening child care, K-12 schools and higher education institutions.

Specific times and locations for the Alexandria stop have not yet been announced. More information will be available at abigailspanberger.com/tour.

A spokesperson for Earle-Sears’ campaign told ALXnow on Monday afternoon that they are working on finalizing their schedule and did not immediately provide details on whether the lieutenant governor plans any public events in Alexandria before the election.

The deadline to register to vote or request a mail-in ballot is Friday, Oct. 24. In-person early voting continues until 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1. For more information about voting in Alexandria, visit alexandriava.gov/Elections.
