Alexandria’s beloved fall festival celebrating animals returns to Oronoco Bay Park on Sunday, Oct. 12, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., offering pet adoptions, live music, shopping, and family entertainment — all free to attend.
Paws in the Park, which benefits the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria, will feature local artisans, nonprofits, and animal-focused businesses, along with food and beverage vendors including local cideries, breweries, wineries, bakeries, and food trucks.
Rescue Row, sponsored by First Georgetown Securities, will showcase adoptable animals from local animal welfare organizations and rescues, providing families with the opportunity to add a furry member to their household.
Main stage entertainment, sponsored by Alexandria Toyota, begins at 11 a.m. and includes bilingual musical act 123 Andrés and the Pet Costume Contest sponsored by Realtor Bobby Mahoney and Corcoran McEnearney. Contest registration is now open at www.PawsintheParkVA.com for a $25 donation to the AWLA, with on-site registration accepted until 12:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for the spookiest, funniest, and most creative costumes. A costume closet will be available on-site for those who do not have costumes.
The Family Fun Tent, sponsored by St. Stephen’s St. Agnes School, will offer arts, crafts, and activities for all ages. A Silent Auction Tent will feature unique experiences and items, with bidding open now through 3:30 p.m. on event day.
“We celebrate the love we share with our animals every day,” said AWLA CEO Stella Hanly, “and Paws in the Park is one of our favorite ways to connect with that community, meet a lot of amazing pet families, and raise awareness and funds for Alexandria’s animals.”
The first 1,000 attendees will receive a swag bag. The event is open to leashed, well-behaved pets of all types. Proceeds benefit the AWLA, which supports homeless animals in Alexandria and pets throughout the community.
