Alexandria residents experienced internet, television and phone service disruptions Thursday after a third-party truck struck fiber lines, causing an outage affecting multiple neighborhoods across the city.
The outage began around 8 a.m. Thursday when the truck hit Xfinity’s fiber lines at the intersection of North Quaker Lane and Janney’s Lane, according to Comcast spokesman Charlie Schoenthaler.
“A third-party truck struck our fiber lines at the intersection of North Quaker Lane and Janney’s Lane, damaging our network and causing service disruptions for some customers in the area,” Schoenthaler said. “Our crews are on-site working to have all impacted customers up and running as soon as possible.”
Xfinity sent notifications to affected customers by 8:20 a.m. The company’s first estimate projected restoration by 11:10 a.m. Eastern time, but that timeline was pushed back to 2 p.m. in a follow-up message sent to customers at 10:01 a.m. As of 1:25 p.m., the estimated restoration time had been extended to approximately 4:05 p.m.
The outage impacted neighborhoods including Seminary Hill, Taylor Run, Eisenhower West and areas near the Potomac River, according to Comcast’s outage map.
At 7:21 p.m. Thursday, Schoenthaler said repairs were complete and services had been fully restored.
