Virginia State Police seek help finding family of man with possible Alexandria ties found dead in Colorado

UPDATE (Sept. 23, 2025): Thanks to numerous tips from the public, next of kin has been notified, according to a Virginia State Police social media post.

Virginia State Police are asking for the public’s help to notify the family of a man with possible Alexandria ties who was found dead in Colorado more than a month ago, according to WDBJ7.

Richard Han was found dead in Mesa County, Colorado on August 15, 2025. The Mesa County Coroner’s Office says all attempts to identify and contact next of kin have been unsuccessful.

Based on a driver’s license found in Han’s possession, investigators believe he was most recently living at the Reynolds Street apartments in Alexandria. However, they are unable to determine when he left Virginia or what ties he may have had to Western Colorado.

Han was born in Korea under the name Sang Jun Hang and became a US citizen in 1998. The Reynolds Street apartments are located in Alexandria’s West End neighborhood, an area with a significant Korean-American population.

Anyone who can provide contact information for Han’s family members or friends is urged to contact Julia Stern, Deputy Coroner and Medicolegal Investigator at the Mesa County Coroner’s Office, at (970) 244-1898 or at 831 Noland Avenue, Grand Junction, CO 81501.
