Taste of Old Town North returns Sept. 18 with food, music and family activities

The annual Taste of Old Town North will return Thursday, Sept. 18, from 4 to 8 p.m. in Montgomery Park, featuring local restaurant tastings, live music and family-friendly activities.

The free event at 901 North Royal Street will showcase neighborhood restaurants, including Jula’s on the Potomac, Hank’s Oyster Bar, MacMillan Spirit and Ale House, Hank’s Pasta Bar, Hotel AKA Alexandria’s a.lounge+bar, and St. Elmo’s Old Town North Coffee Pub.

Vice Mayor Sarah Bagley will speak at the event, which also features an artisans’ market and the City of Alexandria’s Mobile Art Lab offering art supplies and activities for children.

Musical performances will include Hope and Nate from 5 to 6 p.m., followed by The Mod from 6 to 7:45 p.m.

“The taste celebrates and creates a welcoming atmosphere for all who live, work, own small businesses or come out to play in the diverse neighborhoods of Old Town North,” Mayor Alyia Gaskins said in a statement.

Several local nonprofits will provide information about volunteer opportunities, including the League of Women Voters, Alive!, Housing Alexandria, Alexandria Film Festival, Alexandria Seaport Foundation, North Old Town Independent Citizens Association and Volunteer Alexandria.

The event is presented by the Old Town North Community Partnership in partnership with the city’s Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs. Annual Season Sponsor HRP Group and the Old Town North Alliance provide additional support.

Street parking is available in the neighborhood, with public parking at 625 North Washington Street. The rain date is Sept. 25 from 4 to 8 p.m.
