The Office of Historic Alexandria is rolling out new initiatives from May 17 to June 24 to honor Pride Month and showcase the city’s LGBTQ+ history.
On May 13, a new website dedicated to Alexandria’s LGBTQ+ history will go live. It will highlight the impact of LGBTQ+ individuals and businesses on the city’s heritage. You can find it at alexandriava.gov/historic-alexandria/lgbtq-history-in-alexandria. The site will feature expanded online storytelling and emphasize Alexandria’s role in LGBTQ+ rights.
Two special events are on the calendar for June to celebrate LGBTQ+ history and culture.

Celebrate LGBTQ+ stories in a relaxed, drop-in setting. Meet new friends, contribute your story to Alexandria’s Oral History Project, chat with the Alexandria LGBTQ+ Task Force, and craft your own shrinky-dink to take home. Alcoholic (21+ with valid ID) and non-alcoholic beverages are available for purchase. For Ages 16+. - Tavern Game Night: Pride Edition

Gadsby’s Tavern Museum (134 N. Royal St.)
Tavern Ga(y)me Night is back—now with a Pride twist! Explore 18th-century clothing and gender performance, play themed tavern games, and enjoy the crowd-favorite LGBTQ+ history jeopardy. Ages 16+. Note: The ballroom is on the second floor and is not elevator accessible.
Historic Alexandria will also have a booth at the city’s 8th Annual Pride Fair on June 28, showcasing local history.
The Office of Historic Alexandria oversees eight museums, historic sites, and various programs aimed at preserving and sharing the city’s history.
