The Alexandria Sheriff’s Office is celebrating the graduation of 19 local residents who recently completed the Sheriff’s Community Academy spring session. Sheriff Sean Casey presented each graduate with a certificate of achievement and a Sheriff’s Office challenge coin during the March 22 ceremony, marking the conclusion of the four-week educational program.
This ninth session of the Sheriff’s Community Academy, which began on March 1, provided Alexandrians with an interactive opportunity to explore the office’s role in the local criminal justice system. Participants spent their Saturday mornings learning about various aspects of Sheriff’s Office operations through engagement with sworn and professional staff.
“We truly appreciate the time they invested learning about the Sheriff’s Office,” the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office states in a recent social media announcement.
The comprehensive program covered numerous operational areas, including jail operations, court security, inmate transportation, civil process, and inmate classification. Participants also learned about facility support, equipment, training, accreditation, and hiring procedures.
The academy’s interactive nature allowed community members to engage directly with Sheriff’s Office personnel through presentations and demonstrations. Academy members were encouraged to ask questions and participate in hands-on activities throughout the program.
These activities included experiencing a firearms training simulator, pepper ball training, polygraph examination, and Project Lifesaver tracking equipment, which gave participants practical insight into the tools and techniques used by the Sheriff’s Office.
The spring 2025 graduating class includes Emily Barnett, Danielle Beauchamp, Gisselle Cabrera-Rubio, Doyle Cockram, Tai Dieudonne, Wilder Escobedo, Donita Greene, Kathleen Griffin, Majorie Leong, Michelle Mejia, David Muñoz, Gwendoline Plumley, Aida Pitot-Bolivar, Michael Schuster, Kevin Shao, Nia Smart, Kenna Somers, Kyle Taipay, and Lauren Troupe.
During the graduation ceremony, Sheriff Casey thanked the participants for dedicating their time to learn about the Sheriff’s Office. In return, graduates offered positive feedback about their experiences and about the office’s staff and operations.
The Sheriff’s Office confirms that the next Community Academy class will be held in fall 2025. Interested Alexandria residents may contact coordinator Lieutenant Victor Ignacio at [email protected] or check the City’s Academy website for more information about future sessions.
