PNC Alexandria Half Marathon to debut on April 27, evolving from Parkway Classic

The PNC Alexandria Half Marathon will debut in Old Town on Sunday, April 27. It will feature a half marathon, 5K, and kids’ dash.

This event is an evolution of the long-running PNC Parkway Classic.

This race, produced by Pacers Running and sponsored by PNC Bank, will replace the traditional 10-mile distance. It will offer runners 13.1 miles through the heart of Old Town and nearly 10 miles of scenic out-and-back running along the George Washington Parkway.

Event organizers say in an event announcement, “From the serene beauty of our course meandering through the finest spring bloom in the DC area, to beautiful views of the Potomac and the charming streets of Alexandria, the Alexandria Half is a journey that celebrates the simple joys of road racing while enjoying one of our National Parks.”

The half marathon and 5K start at 7:30 a.m. on King Street in front of City Hall and end on N Union Street. At 10:30 a.m., kids under 12 can participate in a 600-meter Kids Dash sponsored by The Kidz Doc.

The event coincides with National Park Week, an annual celebration from April 19 to 27, 2025.

Since starting as the Parkway Classic in 1984, the race has raised nearly $1 million for local and regional charities. This year, all proceeds will go to the Dunbar Alexandria-Olympic Boys + Girls Club.

Runners receive a technical race tee, finisher medal, free photo booth, and chip-timed results. Thanks to Port City Brewing Co., adults 21 and over can enjoy a post-race beer garden.

Registration costs $95 for the half marathon, $50 for the 5K, and $20 for the Kids’ Dash.
