It’s about to get a little brighter in Alexandria.

On Saturday (Nov. 23), city leaders will count down to illuminate Alexandria’s Christmas tree in front of City Hall at Market Square (301 King Street).

Complete with caroling, the event will also close the city’s yearlong 275th anniversary celebration. The 40-foot-tall plastic tree has 40,000 lights.

The free event will begin with Alexandria’s town crier Ben Fiore-Walker, and Mayor Justin Wilson will welcome Santa and Mrs. Claus to meet with families.

The event runs from 6 to 8 p.m.

Can’t make it? Del Ray’s Christmas tree and menorah lightings are on Sunday, Dec. 8.
