Supporting Del Ray Businesses Becomes a Game of Bingo

The Del Ray Business Association has turned supporting local businesses during the coronavirus pandemic into a game.

A bi-weekly bingo series that started today (Monday) fills a 5×5 card with ways to support local businesses in Del Ray. The goal, according to the association, is to “wear a face mask, maintain social distance, and play for the chance to win $50 in Del Ray Dollars,” which are redeemable at some businesses in Del Ray.

Options on the first care include donating canned food to a neighbor, picking up a six-pack of beer from Hops N Shine (3410 Mount Vernon Avenue), and ordering take-out from one of the local restaurants.

A new card will be released every two weeks, the organization said, with the first card running from April 27 to May 10. Anyone who completes five challenges in a row on the board with pictures of their food or retail purchase, challenge, or a screenshot of your receipt can send it to [email protected] and will be entered into a drawing.

The deadline for submissions is Wednesday after the final date on the card. In this case: May 13.

Details about the specific challenges on this week’s bingo card can be found at the Visit Del Ray website.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
